UVC History:
Posted 8/29/2011 - Our chapter may be 23 years old, but it's the last 10 years, that we would love to share with you.

The last 10 years of our chapter's history has kept us very active. Many of our members have participated in many community wide endeavors, some are 4-H Leaders, Pony Club Advisors, High School Dressage Advisors, and one member served as an ODS Regional Representative. We have also sponsored Debbie Spence and Debbie Evans Dressage Clinics, so that we can become better riders.

One of our chapter's fundraiser that we are very proud of, is our annual Poker Ride, that benefits our Horse People Helping Horse People Fund. This year celebrates our 16th year to host this activity at the Douglas County Parks Department's Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park. Mildred Kanipe donated her ranch to the Douglas County Parks Department, to be used as an equine and hiking Park. We were the first horse group to hold any organized activity at the park. Our annual Benefit Poker Ride has raised over $15,000.00 which has been dispersed among those in need. We have helped many Douglas County non-profit organizations such as: Friends of Dornbeckers, Douglas County 4-H, LeSaut Cheval Pony Club, Douglas County High School Dressage Team, plus various individuals and families that need a little help.

We have had an annual Practice Dressage Show and Ride-A-Test, that Richard and Roberta Harper of River Oaks Stables, have been kind enough to sponsor at their facility. This has been very helpful in promoting Dressage for all ages in our area.

We have a community wide fun Horse Show, with a low cost entry fee, to give the youth as well as adults, an equine activity they both can enjoy.

The largest show we have held was a 2-day USDF/ODS Recognized Dressage Show, followed up with a Clinic with Anne Gribbons as our Judge and Clinician. We have also held several ODS League Dressage Shows and Combined Training Shows.

Some of our members who are also 4-H Leaders, have encouraged the youth to participate in Dressage at our local Douglas County Fair.

One of our chapter members developed a UVC brochure that is at our Roseburg Chamber of Commerce and our local Douglas County Farmers Co-op. It gives information about our chapter and who to contact for more information.

We hold monthly Business meetings to keep connected with one another, which helps keep our chapter active.

Our annual Christmas Party has always been the party to attend. We have a Silent Auction with items new or used to be bid on. The money raised from this fundraiser, has been used to help individuals who may need it, at this time of year.

One of our members, Norma Talburt, received her Dressage Foundation Century Award in 2010 riding Lady of Fame at Training Level. Other chapter members have received their Bronze Metal and Silver Metal from USDF.

From the first Monday in October until the last Monday in April, our chapter rides together at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. This activity was started when we were known as the Roseburg Jumping Horse Club back in 1963.

Our newsletter the Half-Halt is published monthly and sent out to members via the Internet. No more snail mail for us, as we practice "Going Green". For the members who are not able to attend our monthly Business meetings and other chapter activities, find that they are kept informed through the Half-Halt, as it's been a vital part of our membership.

We hope you enjoyed reading and learning about our chapters activities, as much as we enjoy doing them.
