Holly Johns, CET's Head Coach, ask me to let everyone know that she is available to help members who either don't have a regular coach, or who need additional help. Holly's expertise is in Dressage, over fences, eventing, training weanlings and starting young horses. Typically, if we can get enough members together (3-4), all we have to do is pay the haul in fee where she trains (Yamhill). The arena is 100 x 200 so there's lots of room to train those more challenging movements. If you are interested in scheduling time with Holly please contact her directly at 503-702-6728 or hollyj@hughes.net. If you are a college student and want to start a college team at your college, please contact Gaye McCabe at 503-393-0309 for recommendations on how to approach your school. Again, if you have any questions, need information, need help, etc., please call Gaye, Randie or me. Heads up, heels down, keep safe and health! Carol Jackson
Posted 5/28/2006 -- To all CLASSICAL EQUESTRIAN TEAM MEMBERS and their FAMILY If you earned your Athletic Club letter through CET this school year, I have either already hand delivered, mailed or will be mailing Tuesday a letter and certificate verifying that to either you or your school. The certificate is for the school to use if they are having an end-of-the year awards presentation so they have something to present to you for this accomplishment. You will be receiving your pen, letterman's patch and "official" certificate at the: CET AWARDS BANQUET
The dinner will be held at Lum Yeun's, 3190 Portland Rd NE, Salem (503-581-2912). Gaye McCabe indicated that the two shows CET hosted this year (Dressage for the Ages and the Crawford's CET and Friends Show) and the work CET members did for Arabs in Motion earned enough that CET will pay for team member dinners. PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL ME TO LET ME KNOW as-soon-as-possible: 1. If you are SHOWING AT THE ODS LEAGUE & HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW, and 2. If your WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE CET AWARDS BANQUET JUNE 10, and 3. How many family members and friends will be attending the dinner. According to my records, the following CET members have lettered this school year:
This is the first year the ODS High School Program has been able to award college scholarships. The criteria is that you must have been an active member for at least two years. Three seniors qualified and each will receive a $500 college scholarship: Bethanye Satterwhite will be attending Linfield College, McMinnville; Eric Nolan will be attending George Fox University, Newberg; and Jill Jackson will be attending Oregon State University, Corvallis. - We ALREADY MISS YOU!!! If your name is not on this list and you have completed the requirements to qualify, or you should qualify at the Championship Show June 10 & 11, please let me know. I will be emailing each member a copy of the letter mailed to your high school, hand delivered or mailed to you (just in case you lost it or want to ensure that your high school received it). Thanks! Posted: 2/18/2006 -- The Classical Equestrian Team is the first High School Dressage team in the United States to show as a team and be awarded High School club/athletic letters. In 2002, Salem Academy Christian High School and Regis' Catholic High School (Stayton, OR) joined forces to host any -and-all high school students (public, private and home-schoolers) who wanted to join CET in order to earn a club/athletic letter in Dressage. SAC and Regis continue to be CET's host schools. At the September 2005 ODS Annual Awards Banquet the following fifteen Classical Equestrian Team members received their High School pens from Don Heuberger (Regis' High School Athletic Director), Participation Certificates from Gaye McCabe (USDF Region 6 Chair), and CET letterman's patches from Carol Jackson (CET Coordinator): Alex Thore (Veritas HS), Jill Jackson (Silverton HS), Eric Nolan (Yamhill-Carlton HS), Jessica Crawford (Sherwood HS), Jennifer Cudo (Corvallis HS), Danae Martin (Gervais HS), Catherine Pike (Gervais HS), Amy Rufener (McNary HS), Bethanye Satterwhite (Hillsboro HS), Alycia Smith (home schooled), Kelsey Slocum (North Salem HS), Elyse Brown (Estacada HS), Shelley Chestler (Lake Oswego HS), Leann Moneta (Sherwood HS), and Jackie Gibson (Rex Putnam HS - Jackie is this year's Clackamas County Rodeo Queen - go JACKIE!). In October 22 & 23, 2005 CET was invited to DevonWood to have a two day clinic with Jessica Rattner. It was an outstanding event. Jessica and her mom, Ginny, made all the CET members feel right at home. Jessica has a special way of connecting with each horse and rider. Everyone who came had a great time, came away having learned much, and was prepared to do their homework. Jessica enjoyed the team so much that she has agreed to be CET's Assistant Coach for this school year. In November and in December CET member, Jessica Crawford, and parents, Steve and Judy Crawford, hosted two - two day clinics with Kathy Casey. The November clinic included schooling tests. It was filled to over-flowing, lots of fun and very educational. The clinic in December included CET's annual Christmas Party. Kathy's encouraging way of working with students and ability to share her "judge's view" of what great Dressage is proved to be very rewarding for all participants. In January CET Head Coach, Holly Johns, invited all interested CET members out for a two day clinic at the barn she trains at inYmahill-Carlton. It is about 100 x 200 so we can get a lot of work done. CET members who work with Holly call her the Miracle Worker because of the tremendous improvement they experience in a short time...but they also have coined her clinics as the "abs" burner. Regardless of how "in-shape" you come to one of her clinics, you discover muscles you never thought you had. February 11 & 12, 2006, CET hosted the Dressage for the Ages ODS League Show in Boring. The proceeds from the show will be used to establish an ODS College Scholarship for High School members. Sixteen CET members rode in the show along with Team Coach, Holly Johns. During the show three new members joined, for a total of 19 members showing. Three other CET members came to support the team and volunteered their time to make the show a success. Saturday evening in the clubroom the team had an all member birthday party. It was an outstanding show. CET members had a lot of fun working together, getting to know each other and doing what they love as a team- Dressage. We had so many members there that we keep Holly Johns very busy coaching team members. A big thank you also goes out to Teri Emrich and Kim Baker who have members on the CET team for reading tests and provided encouragemetn and coaching for CET. And of course, the show would not have been possible without the time and dedication of Gaye McCabe who coordinated, ran and secretaried the show. February 24, 25, 26, 2006, Jessica Rattner is flying back from Florida to give CET members lessons Friday eve, Saturday and Sunday. Anyone interested in auditing the clinic can contact Carol Jackson for details (503-393-2786 or 503-949-0156). We may have one or two riding slots available. March 4 & 5, 2006 you will find CET at Bears Above the Ground in McMinnville with sufficient members to qualify it as a team show. Bears is always a special show for CET members. It is the first show CET every participated in, and it became the first High School Dressage Team show in the nation. March 25-26, 2006 you will find CET's Training and First level members showing at Spring Into Dressage at DevonWood. April 1 & 2, 2006 is DevonWood in the Spring for CET's Second and Thirdlevel members. CET will be trying to get Jessica back for another clinic at DevonWood in April. Then in May you'll find CET members at Heart of the Valley, also at DevonWood. CET will have our 2nd annual CET member and friends ODS League Show at the Crawford's, with "L" judge, Kathy Casey. The date is not yet set, but it is anticipated to be April or May. The June 10 & 11 ODS League Championship Show is three shows in one. It will be an open show on Saturday, and a High School Championship Show and ODS League Championship Show on Saturday and Sunday. This will be the first (that we know of) High School Championship Show in the nation. CET plans on going out to dinner Saturday evening. At that time High School athletic letters, pens, patches and certificates for the school year will be awarded. This will be a historic event because it will mark the first time in the nation that anyone has letter four years in Dressage. For more information about forming a high school Dressage Team, please contact the ODS office, or Gaye McCabe (503-378-0309) j-g.McCabe@juno.com; or Carol Jackson (503-393-2786 or 503-949-0156) jackson4@open.org. Posted: 2/28/2006 -- How much fun can a team have! The Classical Equestrian Team hosted the Dressage for the Ages ODS League Show February 11 and 12 with Gaye McCabe as the show secretary and organizer. The proceeds from the show will be used to establish college scholarships for ODS High School Team members. CET had twelve members complete in the show on Saturday and eighteen on Sunday. Twelve of the team members spent the night together Friday at the show, and the following evening there was an all team pizza and birthday party with about ten of the girls spending the night together. For several of the girls it was their first show as a member of CET. During the show two students joined CET (Rachael Steffen of Oregon City/home schooled, and Caitlin Wisbeskie from South Eugene HS). Three long time team members came strictly to helped run the show: Bethanye Satterwhite, Hillsboro HS, and Danae Martin and Cathreine Pike of Gervais HS. Nancy Crowshaw and Amy Rufener of McNary High School let Jill Jackson of Silverton HS borrow their horses because Campbell was ill, and Kelli Gamble of Oregon City High School brought along an extra horse for Maddy McKallip of Grant HS to ride. CET was established in 2002 when Salem Academy Christian High School in Salem and Regis Catholic High School in Stayton agreed to allow high school students from all over the State to join their combined Classical Equestrian Team. The two schools are in their fifth year as hosts of CET. The first year the team had six members with four lettering. Last year fifteen members out of 21 earned their high school letter in Dressage through CET. So far this year CET has 24 members and several honorary members who are in junior high and will become full members when they reach high school age. Although CET 's Team Coordinator does put together a roster of which team member will be on which team during a show, CET members are not told until the awards are presented which team they were on because shows are never a competition between riders or teams. CET members come to each show with four objectives: 1) number one is always safety; 2) try to better your own last score so you and your horse can move up the tests and levels through correct training; 3) encourage and support each and every member just like you would like to be supported and encouraged in a sport you love; and 4) volunteer at each show. At the Ages show Saturday the team had twelve riders with four teams of three. Salem Academy Team A took 1st; Regis Team A took 2nd; Salem Academy Team B took 3rd; and Regis Team B took 5th. On Sunday CET had eighteen riders participate so the team split into two teams of five and two teams of four. Regis Team B took 1st; Salem Academy Team A took 2nd, Regis Team A took 3rd, and Salem Academy Team B took 4th. Holly Johns, CET Head Coach was on hand as a coach and a participant. When Holly had too much to handle Teri Emrich and Kim Barker (who both have students on CET) helped the team by reading tests and providing coaching. ![]() 2006 Team Results/Score Report - Bears Above the Ground ![]() President: Jill Jackson Vice President: Jessica Crawford Secretary: Catherine Pike Treasurer: Eric Nolan Reporter/Historian: Ryann Nolan ODS Liasion: Bethanye Satterwhite & Danae Martin ![]() This year's members include: Catherine Canaga* (Dallas HS); Shelley Chestler (Lake Oswego HS); Jessica Crawford (Sherwood HS)*; Nancy Crowshaw* (McNary HS); Samantha Hege* (The Dalles HS); Jamie Hughes* (West Salem HS); Jill Jackson* (Silverton HS); Allee Lindahl (Scappoose HS); Danae Martin (Gervais HS); Jordan Martin*^ (West Linn HS); Miranda McGee* (Sherwood HS); Maddy McKallip* (Grant HS); Eric Nolan*^ (Yamhill-Carlton HS); Ryann Nolan*^ (Yamhill-Carlton HS); Catherine Pike (Gervais HS); Amy Rufener*^ (McNary HS); Donica Rustrum* (Newberg HS); Bethanye Satterwhite (Hillsboro HS); Anne Schuyler-Moon* (Central HS); Rachael Steffen* (home schooled); Kelli Gamble* (Oregon City HS); Alycia Smith* (home schooled); Rachal Stoller (Canby HS); Caitlin Wisbeski* (South Eugene HS); and honorary members (grade school or junior highers) Naomi Martin and Michelle Mannenback.
