What is the “L” Program?

The “L” program offers a comprehensive curriculum created to teach participants and auditors how to evaluate dressage performance at Training through Second Level.

Purpose

This program has been designed with several goals in mind:

  1. To give competitor, trainers, and instructors broader insight into the evaluative techniques of judging dressage;
  2. To qualify individuals to judge schooling shows.
  3. As part of the prerequisites to enter the United States Equestrian Federation 'r' Judges Training Program;
  4. To serve as continuing education for licensed judges.

What are the requirements in becoming a candidate?

Part 2 (Sessions D1, D2, Final Exam):
  1. Membership: You must be a current USDF Participating Member
  2. Competition Score Requirement: Scores must be earned prior to entering the program You must have three scores of 60% or higher at Second Level or above from three different USEF-licensed judges. Only scores from USDF/USEF recognized competitions will count. Scores for Freestyle and Young Horse tests are not eligible as one of the three scores.

Why is this program especially important for ODS?

In addition to the tremendous opportunity for learning this program offers to all dressage enthusiasts and of the continuing education opportunity this program provdies for current "L" graduates, the ODS League Show approval requires at least an "L" graduate to be used as an official. Having candidates successfully complete this program will increase the pool of available officials for approved ODS League Shows.

To find out the exact requirements for this Program check the USDF web site by clicking here (go to the participant section).
