Membership Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Last updated 10/15/11
Q: How long does it take to process my
membership and receive my membership card?
A: ODS has one part-time office administrator.
Applications are normally processed within 3 to 5 days
of receipt, however we request that you allow up
to six weeks for memberships to be fully processed,
which includes the start of magazine subscriptions and your USDF Group Membership. As soon as memberships are processed in our office, your name will appear on this online list.
Q: I have a show tomorrow. Can I receive my
membership number and card immediately?
A: You can join online 24 hours a day 7 days a week by following this link. While you won't receive an ODS member, you will be able to prove your membership by showing the secretary a receipt for membership payment; the secretary will then turn in results with your membership number marked as "pending."
Our online processing is hosted by USDF and if the top of the page does not say Oregon Dressage Society, that means that you are on the USDF's Participating or Education Membership Page, and your membership will be processed as a USDF PM/EM, not as an ODS membership.
After your credit card is processed, the USDF server will e-mail you a transaction receipt which you may use as proof of membership. NOTE: if you do not receive an e-mail confirming that your credit card was processed, please verify that the transaction was successful. There is no error screen if the membership did not go through!!
Alternatively, if your request is presented during normal office hours ( Monday - Thursday from 9 AM - 1 PM PST), we can take a rush application over the phone with an additional $20 rush processing fee.
Otherwise, membership applications will be processed in order received. If your membership is received during an office closure it will be backdated to postmarked date on envelope or recorded date on fax.
Q: I had a show last weekend. Can ODS backdate my membership so that my scores count towards year end awards?
A: Unfortunately, unless you joined at the show prior to scores being earned or mailed your application so that it has a postmark before the scores were earned, we are unable to backdate your membership.
Q: I accidentally deleted the e-mail that contained my proof of membership ("membership card"). How can I prove my membership?
A: Members may prove their membership for educational and showing purposes in the following ways:
- By printing the page on which your name, membership number appears on our online list (no need to print the whole list - select the page number when you print and print only that page).
- By photocopying the page on which your name and membership information appears within the published ODS Roster.
- By going to www.usdf.org/card and printing proof of membership - enter your name and after you submit, click on the link that says "GMO" (not your number under your name) to bring up your ODS proof of membership. Note: there is no ODS member number on this, please add it - if you do not know it, please look it up on our online list.
- By printing the USDF transaction receipt you received after successful processing of your membership online.
By e-mailing the ODS Office and requesting the first e-mailed proof of membership to be resent.
- Paper membership documents can be mailed by the ODS Office for a suggested donation of $10. Please call the ODS Office at (503) 681-2337 with a credit card number or mail a check to ODS Office 880 NE 25th Ave Ste 2-173, Hillsboro, OR 97124 with written request and we will issue you a replacement card within 5 days.
Q: I joined recently so where is my copy of
Flying Changes? How do I report missing issues
of Flying Changes?
A: It can take up to six weeks to get you onto the
Flying Changes mailing list. The deadline is
the 7th of the month for the following month's issue -
so to receive the January issue of Flying Changes,
your membership will need to be in the ODS Office with
ample time for processing prior to December 7th. If
your membership application is processed after
December 7th, you should receive the February issue as
your first issue. Please call or e-mail the ODS
Office if you have missing issues.
ODS Memberships are processed by the ODS Office with oversight by the ODS Board of Directors.
