Good times had by all at last weekend’s ODS / USDF Adult Team Show held in McMinnville, Oregon. This annual show was managed by volunteers Linda Wick and Gaye McCabe and judged by Janet Snazuk (L) of Gold Beach, Oregon. Each rider was required to volunteer and because of the plentiful volunteers, the show ran very smoothly.
The “Gold Trotters” Quadrille team, pictured above, was a hit, scoring 67.890% on Saturday and 66.310% on Sunday. The Halflinger quadrille teammates are Sharon Knowlton of Tigard, OR riding Wred LMP, Sarah Diebert of Vancouver, WA riding Allelulia BCH, Naomi Catts-Tucker riding White Bolad and Marilyn Rodriguez of Gaston, OR riding Limerick of NW.

There was also a Pas de Deux ridden on Saturday by mother/daughter team Phyllis Herincks aboard Pickel – N – Spice of Banks, OR and Jackie Hopper riding Jubilee of Gales Creek, OR. Their score was 64.500%. Rounding out the musical rides was ODS President Marsha Williams of Bend, OR riding Skyview Cygnus, awarded with a 65.000% for their First Level Musical Freestyle on Saturday.

Spring Dance Show is a Go

May 17th, 2007

To: ODS Membership
From:  Ginger Kathleen Coombs
RE: Spring Dance Show / NWEEC in Boring

We now know for sure that Spring Dance is a go.

We have the facility and judge, have too much to still do, but it’s a go!  We will need gate help, scribes and maybe even a good announcer!

NWEEC in Boring is open under old owners, and has raised the rates significantly, but in spite of the challenges, we have so many people who want this show that we are going to do our level best to pull off a well organized, friendly show again.

Contact Ginger Kathleen Coombs at 360-904-2396.

Help USDF Get the Word Out – IMO Programs

May 17th, 2007

USDF and the Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Member Organization (IMO) Committee have updated the IMO brochure and have made it available for download in the GMO Newsletter Editor section of the USDF Web site. This section of the web site is updated frequently for use by all GMOs. Please make sure to check this page regularly for ads, feature articles and promotions offered by USDF.

The updated IMO brochure includes a list of all current IMO schools and information about IMO award programs. USDF hopes that with the help of the GMOs, we can rejuvenate the USDF IMO program and get the information out to more youths who may be interested in taking part. We encourage all of you to print these brochures and make them readily available to the youth in your area through high school guidance counselors, college admissions offices, horse show management and other local equestrian clubs. Help USDF promote dressage to our youth and make this program as viable as those offered for adults. For more information on the IMO program, please visit the USDF Web site or contact the USDF office at (859) 971-2277 or via e-mail at imo@usdf.org.

Letter Perfect Dressage Lottery Information

May 16th, 2007

The following announcement applies to Friday and Saturday riding show dates.

Letter Perfect is still accepting entries for the Sunday sporthorse show.

Due to the number of entries received, Letter Perfect Dressage will be assigning numbers through a lottery for all entries postmarked May 1 and later. Each day will be treated as a separate lottery. The lottery will be held weekly on Sundays at noon up to June 10, the Sunday after the closing date. The First lottery day will be May 13 for those entries postmarked May 1 – May 12.

In the event that all ride times are filled before the closing date, an exhibitor will be automatically placed on the Wait List. If a Wait Listed exhibitor would like to withdraw from the Wait List before the closing date, no withdrawal fee will be charged. For all others on the Wait List, your entry will not be activated, and thus subjected to all USEF rules and fees, until a spot becomes available.

Because the show is seven weeks from now, entries may be subject to change. I would still encourage those that want to be on the Wait List to send in an entry.

Edited 5/16/07 at 5:09 PM to add the following:: Lottery location will be at Dove Creek Farm 20615 212th Ave Battle Ground WA at noon.

Thank you for your overwhelming support of dressage shows -

Barbara Tuohino Funk, Manager/Secretary of Letter Perfect Dressage

Deadline to Order: May 29, 2007

The Lipizzaner Stallions are on their 37th Anniversary Tour in 2007. In 1970, Producer Gary Lashinsky created a new family arena attraction, starring The “World Famous” LIPIZZANER STALLIONS.

Many horses and riders were brought from Europe to perform in this unique family oriented arena attraction. Over the years, twenty-three million people throughout North and South America, Great Britain, Europe, Australia and Hawaii have seen this internationally acclaimed spectacle.

2007 represents the 37th Anniversary season of The Lipizzaner Stallions. All new music, choreography and routines have been incorporated in this anniversary edition with a major emphasis on the historical background and foundation of the Lipizzaner breed, from its original breeding and use as a horse of war to a horse of nobility and aristocracy to a living form of equestrian art. The show emulates the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, in its presentation of Lipizzans, and maintains a traditional as well as entertaining performance similar in many ways to what you would see at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.

Also included in the performance is a segment called the “Airs Above the Ground.” These are the spectacular leaps and maneuvers, once used by riders in saddle to protect and defend themselves on the battlefield, which are now preserved as an equestrian work of art. When you see the Lipizzans perform, it is like stepping back four hundred years and viewing one of the greatest equine ballets in history.

The Lipizzan is a rare and unique breed; its history and culture is known worldwide. The Walt Disney movie The Miracle of the White Stallions, depicting General George S. Patton saving them at the end of World War II from certain extinction, created an even greater world-wide interest in the Lipizzaner breed. Had it not been for Patton, there would be no Lipizzans today.

Although the Lipizzans star in this presentation, the ancestral forefather of the Lipizzan, the Spanish Andalusian, is featured in a high school presentation with special wardrobe themed to traditional Spanish music.

Not only is the Andalusian shown in saddle, but also in a unique presentation where the rider performs all the maneuvers of the Grand Prix Olympic level dressage on the longline, while walking behind the horse and guiding him through his paces.

The current tour features 12 to 14 stallions performing selected maneuvers as described above in an exciting presentation.

The conclusion of the performance of The Lipizzaner Stallions is the traditional Grand Quadrille, featuring six to eight Lipizzaner Stallions with their riders performing an intricate, equine ballet, exhibiting maneuvers through the highest level of dressage. The Lipizzans prance, march and intricately weave their way across the floor to the music of the Masters in a spectacular ballet of four-footed white dancers.

Harkening back to time when the horse was a symbol of grace and majesty, the Lipizzaner Stallions are truly a great experience to be enjoyed by the entire family. One does not need to be a horse lover to enjoy “The Equestrian Treat of the Century”!

Thanks and feel free to call me at (503) 963-3889 if you would like any additional information.
The Spanish Riding School, who are a seperate touring group with the Lipizzaner Stallions will be coming here in November of 2008.
