Educational Sessions at the upcoming Region 6 Convention now USDF University Approved

Earn a USDF University Credit when you attend the workshops at the 2009 USDF Region 6 Mini Convention and pay the $5.00 university fee.

The updated registration form is now posted on the ODS Website (news page). Please submit your registration ASAP or contact us as the hotel needs the count for lunch by Tuesday.

Proper Saddle Fit: There’s a Lot More Than Comfort at Stake
Ilene Nessenson, JD of Holistic Horse Bodyworks, LLC
This class will be presented Saturday, November 21st at 8:00 AM in the Mt. Bachelor Room
Did you know improper saddle fit can cause back issues, lameness, muscle damage, behavioral issues and poor performance? Attend this informative and hands on saddle fitting session to learn how to help your horse maintain good health. Attendees will learn about the 6 components of a comprehensive saddle fit and perform structural assessments on various saddles. Attendees are welcome to bring their own saddles.
About the presenter:
Ilene Nessenson, J.D., CEBW, is the owner of Holistic Horse Bodyworks, LLC and equine massage therapist for the Portland Mounted Patrol. She is a certified equine body worker, saddle fitter, saddle reflocker, and yoga instructor.

Minerals in Performance Horses

This class will be presented Saturday, November 21st at 9:00 AM in the Mt. Bachelor Room
Speaker Brady Karren of Arenus Health and Nutrition is going to be presenting an educational session at 9 AM in the Mt. Bachelor Room about minerals in performance horses. This is a can’t miss educational session. Brady has spent a lifetime working with horses in one aspect or another. He grew up showing reining, cutting, working cow horses, roping, and starting colts in the mountains of Utah. Brady received a Masters degree in Animal Science specializing in Equine Nutrition from Texas A&M University and continues to be amazed at the feats achieved by horses and is passionate about our relationship with them. Focusing especially on what we can feed our equine counterparts to assist them in having longer and more fulfilling careers as Equine Athletes and more content years as a part of our families.

A Treasurer’s Workshop: Tax Status and Reporting

This session will be an overview of the annual reporting responsibilities of an USDF GMO and associated chapters. These are items that chapter presidents, chapter treasurer’s and show management should know. Topics that will be covered include:
• Official non-profit status, Registered Charitable Organization, IRS resources
• Financial Records, Record Retention
• Bank Accounts-changing banks, updating signatories
• Year-end Chapter reports
• Hiring Show Officials, Clinicians, other contractors—what are your responsibilities? Resources
• Frequently Asked Questions from chapters

Equine Law: Your Questions Answered
