Updated 2010 ODS Publications Schedule

January 22nd, 2010

Dear ODS,

The ODS Publications Schedule has changed in part due to our “Going Green” project.  Our office will be mailing all three publications at the same time – ODS Omnibus, ODS Roster and ODS Test Booklet – which saves on paper (1 envelope instead of 3), postage and volunteer/staff time.  The mailing will be customized to your order based on opt-out selections.

Our target date for printing is February 1st and for mailing is February 10th, which is later than the normal early January drop for the ODS Omnibus / Test Booklet but earlier than the normal April/May drop of the ODS Roster.

Please watch for updates on the publications schedule and please be patient with us as this is the first time in recent years that we’ve tried to coordinate this effort. We need volunteers to help stuff envelopes – please watch the ODS News page for any volunteer opportunities.

Show prize lists and other important information about shows and clinics are continuously being posted on the ODS website.   If you have difficulty with a online prize lists, please e-mail the office for assistance.

Please contact the ODS Office if you have any questions.

Warmest Regards,

LINCOLN, Nebraska, Jan. 14–Jennifer S. Williams with her American-bred H.S. Wistar has been awarded a $25,000 (€17,225) Anne L. Barlow Ramsay grant to train in Europe.

The annual grant, administered by The Dressage Foundation, is designed to showcase talented American-bred horses ridden by U.S. citizens to train and compete in Europe.

Jennifer of Yelm, Washington, and her Hungarian warmblood will train with Catherine Haddad at Vechta, Germany, and will compete at CDIs in Oldenburg, Germany, and Odense, Denmark next fall.

“Jennifer’s dedication, qualifications, and desire to gain international experience impressed the Selection Committee,” said Jenny Johnson, Administrative Manager of The Dressage Foundation.

“Training and competing in Europe will give Wistar and me experience in how the European show system works, will give us experience with larger crowds and venues and will help acclimate us to the highest level of competition – international competition,” Jennifer said. “The Anne L. Barlow Ramsay Grant will allow me to experience and learn from competing abroad, something I only dreamed about before the award.”

Dr. Anne Barlow Ramsay who lived in Fernandina Beach, Florida established a Charitable Remainder Unitrust in 1999. She worked with John Boomer, then president and CEO of The Dressage Foundation. “The remainder funds were designated to come to The Dressage Foundation in 2009,” said Boomer, “and now her sizable fund will yield the $25,000 grant annually well out into future years.”

“Dr. Ramsay is a Renaissance woman — a wife, mother, medical doctor, business executive, volunteer, world-traveler and equestrienne,” said John Boomer. “In 2009, Dr. Ramsay established a second Charitable Remainder Unitrust, with the remainder funds again coming to The Dressage Foundation in 2019, to continue her schedule of $25,000 annual grants far out into the future years. Anne Ramsay’s creative, distinctive gift is remarkable for its longevity–it will be helping dressage riders and American-bred horses for a very long time to come.”

North Willamette Valley Chapter ODS Annual Report for 2009

January 11th, 2010

2009 was a good year for NWV Chapter, We had about 100 members.

Our Treasury is in good enough shape that we can spend a little money for educational activities and sponsorships.

Last year we had our recognized show, Spring In To Dressage at DevonWood in March. And out first Leauge Show, Summer Daze at Mt. Hood Equistrian & Event Center in July. Both shows were well attended and successful.

NWV’s Adult Equestrian Camp was August 27th – 30th at Mark Your Mark Stables in Springfield, Oregon. This was an OPEN camp sponsored by NWV Chapter. We had 11 riders and 3 instructors. We camped out at the barn and a great time was had by all participants.

We had planned a Family and Friends Trail Ride and Camp Out for October at Silvercreek Falls State Park, but the weather turned rainy and cold and we had to cancel.

We finished the year with a fun potluck Christmas Party at the home of Marla Santino. This year Chapter Members donated a cash gift to Safe Horses, horse rescue.

This year is already off to a great start. I, Kathy Darneille, have been elected as the new President. Our Vice President of Activities, Marla Santino has us scheduled with activities for several months already. Helen Ferguson continues to be our Treasurer, Donna Edwards is our Secretary and Kaye Phaneuf is our Membership Chairperson and will be doing out News Letter.

January 1st we had a Members and Friends Fun Day at Canby Equestrian Center. Where we played games and rode tests on our horses and had an unbelievably good potluck.   Check out this youtube video of one of the playday events!

My goal this year is to achieve more membership participation in our activities.

For more information about North Willamette Valley Chapter and our events please contact Kathy Darneille at 503 982-1044 or Marla Santino at 503 522-5453.
