ODS member Jeremy Steinberg named National Dressage Youth Coach

August 28th, 2010

Jeremy Steinberg by Mary Cornelius

Lexington, KY – Accomplished High Performance Dressage competitor Jeremy Steinberg of Kirkland, WA has been appointed as the inaugural USEF National Dressage Youth Coach. The 1996 NAJYRC Gold Medalist, Steinberg’s career developed from the Young Rider ranks into successfully training and competing horses at all levels from Young Horse to Grand Prix, including international competitions and the U.S. League Finals for the FEI World Cup.

The USEF Youth Dressage Programs are currently under construction, and will become a critical link in the pipeline for development of future riders.

“The National Youth Coach needs to help develop the next generation of riders, trainers, teachers, and knowledgeable supporters to insure that dressage sport flourishes,” says Steinberg. “My vision for the USEF National Youth Coach role is to be part of a system which can produce riders and horses from the very basic level all the way up to international superstar riders and trainers, producing along the way those teachers who can bring success for generations to come. I see that in our future, believe in that goal, and I look forward to working with USEF to make that a reality.”

Through an open application process conducted in the spring and summer, Steinberg was selected from a pool of highly qualified international candidates. As the newest and youngest member of the USEF dressage coaching staff, Steinberg will work extensively with Technical Advisor Anne Gribbons and the USEF Dressage Committee to design a program to benefit youth at all levels of the sport.

Jayne Ayers, chairwoman of the USEF Dressage Committee, said, “I am confident that Jeremy will bring the energy and enthusiasm we need to build programs which promote the best education and opportunities for our youth.”

“I am delighted to have a Youth Coach in place,” said USEF Technical Advisor Anne Gribbons. “And I look forward to the development of these programs and to working with Jeremy.”

Steinberg is a popular clinician, conducting clinics almost every weekend at sites around the country, in addition to working extensively with Juniors and Young Riders on the West Coast. During this year’s NAJYRC in Lexington, KY, Steinberg was awarded the inaugural “Albers Award”, presented to the dressage Chef d’Equipe who best demonstrates an extraordinary level of dedication, enthusiasm and team spirit.

“The youth riders are our future, whether it’s as international level competitors or local horse trainers,” said Steinberg. “Proponents of the sport know that we need a steady stream of new and upcoming riders and trainers who are well educated in all things to do with the horse, not just riding dressage tests. It is our responsibility to find a way to create an environment and system where younger riders and professionals in the United States are groomed for the future and given the tools to better themselves and exceed our expectations.”

Calling all volunteers – the ODS Championships needs you!

August 26th, 2010

Hello ODS –

We need your help! Our ODS Open & Championships Shows are just a few weeks away (Sept 10th-12th, DevonWood Eq. Centre), and we have many volunteer vacancies to fill.

Your support has been amazing in past years, and it has made this show what it is. We anticipate using at least three competition rings, with the possibility of a fourth ring for part of the show.  Your help is critical to continue the tradition of a quality championship event.

We have vacancies in all positions for all three days, including scribe, gate, warm-up steward, scorer, runner (must have OR Drivers License), and more.  There are opportunities to assist with parking and “checking in” if you are available on Thursday September 9th.

If you are available to dedicate even just a few hours, we would LOVE to hear from you.

Competitors, we fully understand that you cannot commit to helping  until your ride times are received.  We’re happy to schedule around your commitments.  If you could respond with your intent to volunteer, we’ll follow up with you after ride times are known, or at the show.

Please contact John Craven at John_Craven@ous.edu, or 541-602-4400.

Each of our volunteers will receive a nice thank-you gift for their time. Come enjoy the show if you can – we would so appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance, we hope to hear from you.

Time is Running OUT!

August 17th, 2010

Hi everyone. Time is running out to show your support for the 2010 ODS Championship Show. This show is ODS’s biggest money-maker, aside from member fees, and we need your support! Without the support of our members and business, we wouldn’t be able to provide the extras that our members rely on.

We will accept sponsorships until beginning of the show, however, if you want your name on awards for the classes you sponsor, you’ll want to get your sponsorship info in by August 21, 2010. If you’re going to sponsor championship classes, please email me with your intent (so I can get you name on the awards!).

Also, don’t miss out on our new sponsorships for this year: $5-$20 for individual members (excludes businesses).

You can go to: http://www.odschampionshipshow.com/2010-art/ODS_sponsor_vendor_ads2010-1.pdf for all the information.

Time is running out. Don’t miss your chance to show your support for our organization.

Inaugural Albers Award awarded to ODS member Jeremy Steinberg and Roz Kinstler at the 2010 USDF/Platinum Performance North American Junior/Young Rider Dressage Championships at the Adequan FEI North American Junior/Young Riders Championships presented by Gotham North

August 16th, 2010

Jeremy Steinberg by Mary Cornelius

Photo by Mary Cornelius  Lexington, KY (August 12, 2010) – The selection committee had a difficult task choosing just one Chef d’Equipe from the many poignant nominations received at this year’s NAJYRC. The perpetual trophy named in honor of long time USDF Region 1 Chef d’Equipe, Patsy Albers was awarded to two deserving chefs; Jeremy Steinberg from Region 6 and Roz Kinstler from Region 2, both who have demonstrated an outstanding level of dedication, enthusiasm and team spirit.

Roz Kinstler has been Chef d’Equipe for the Region 2 Junior and Young Rider teams for over ten years and has looked up to Patsy throughout the years. “I am really honored to receive this award, as I know Patsy very well and have seen her in action. When I first started, Patsy was a wealth of information and support. Each year I seem to learn more about helping to keep things smooth so the team members can compete and actually enjoy the experience. The kids are my motivation. I thoroughly enjoy the sport of dressage and in this way I can return the favor.”

Region 6, Chef d’Equipe, Jeremy Steinberg also views Patsy as a great role model and was honored to receive the award, “I couldn’t think of anyone better to share the honor with than Roz and I hope we do Patsy proud! From the minute I step on the grounds at NAJYRC I want to do everything I can to help every junior and young rider have the show of their life. It was a very special show for me during the years I competed in it and over the last ten years of going as either Chef or a trainer, it’s been my goal to help give that same experience not only to the riders of Region 6, but to every rider on the show grounds. I believe in the NAJYRC and am honored that the NAJYRC believes in me!”

The Albers Award perpetual trophy will reside in the Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame and the recipients will each receive a custom engraved keeper trophy. The trophy will be awarded annually at the USDF/Platinum Performance North American Junior & Young Rider Dressage Championships.

The NAJYRC is the premier equestrian competition in North America for Junior and Young Riders, age 14-21. Teams are invited from the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean to compete for team and individual medals in the three Olympic disciplines of show jumping, dressage, eventing and the World Equestrian Games discipline of reining.

Founded in 1973, The United States Dressage Federation is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to education, recognition of achievement, and promotion of dressage. For more information about USDF membership or programs visit www.usdf.org , e-mail usdressage@usdf.org or call (859) 971-2277.

October 18 & 19 Opportunity to ride with Morten Thomsen in Washington

August 12th, 2010

Hello,

I’m excited to announce a clinic with the new US Team Coach, Morten Thomsen!

The clinic is October 18-19 at Cedar Meadow Farm (Pumpkin Farms alternate location). I rode with Morten in the USEF Elite Rider Clinic in San Diego in June, and he was great to ride with. Very engaged, positive, and very effective. All of the horses improved greatly in the lessons. This is an amazing opportunity to be one of the few places in the country that gets to host Morten, so I hope that the Northwest takes advantage of this  opportunity! I am accepting riders and auditors at this time. Auditors need to sign up in advance. Absolutely no auditors at the door.
