ODS has been awarded a $2000 Violet Hopkins Grant from The Dressage Foundation to Offset Costs to Participants and Auditors in the Upcoming 2011 “L” Education Program

October 27th, 2010

Hillsboro, Oregon: The Oregon Dressage Society (ODS) announced Saturday that it has received a grant of $2000 from the Dressage Foundation’s Violet Hopkins Fund for an upcoming United States Dressage Federation (USDF) approved “L” Education Dressage judges training program to be held in January, February and March of 2011 in Sherwood, Oregon.  Details about registration for the program are being worked out and will be posted on the ODS website by early November.

The grant will allow ODS to allow interested participants and auditors to attend the program at reduced cost.  “In 2007, ODS offered this program which helped to increase the pool of available “L” graduates in the Pacific Northwest.  Since then, our members have been urging our Education Committee to host another “L” session, but we have held off in part due to economics,” commented Corinne Stonier, the ODS Executive Director.  “The last time ODS offered this program the cost to participate was $350 per session.  Because of this grant, not only is ODS comfortable in offering this program despite the poor economy, but we are also able to reduce the cost to participants by more than $100 per session than the previous session.  The cost to audit the program will be significantly lower, reduced from $90 per session in 2007 down to $35 per session in 2011.  This program is an amazing educational opportunity for anyone who studies Dressage!”

The “L” program is an educational program organized by the USDF Judges Committee in which competitors, trainers and instructors alike gain insight into the evaluative techniques of judging.  Participation in the program is one of the prerequisites towards entering the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) “r” dressage judge training program.  Another goal of the “L” education program is to qualify individuals for judging ODS League approved shows and schooling shows.

The Violet M. Hopkins Fund was established at The Dressage Foundation (TDF) in 1996 to help support educational programs of USDF Group Member Organizations (GMOs). The objective of the Hopkins Fund is to give financial assistance to help USDF GMOs provide quality and effective instructional Dressage programs to riders at all levels. “The Selection Committee members are very happy to help fund this program, and know that it will be extremely worthwhile to all attendees!” stated TDF administrative manager Jenny Johnson.   The Dressage Foundation’s mission is to cultivate and provide financial support for the advancement of Dressage.  It was established in 1989 by Lowell Boomer, who also was founder of the USDF in 1973.   To learn more about TDF, visit their website at www.dressagefoundation.org.

Founded in 1971, the Oregon Dressage Society is the third largest Group Member Organization of the United States Dressage Federation.  The Oregon Dressage Society, an affiliate of the United States Dressage Federation, exists to educate, promote and inspire its members and the general public through programs, publications and competitions, in a way that enhances the image of Dressage and promotes the welfare of the horse.  For more information about ODS membership or programs, please visit www.oregondressage.com, e-mail office@oregondressage.com or call (503) 681-2337.

Optimize Your Horse’s Energy for Better Performance – open to Youth and Adults

LizaBurney-Headshot
Liza Burney, Heart to Heart Healing

This class will be presented Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 3 PM in Classroom B

Pranic Healing is a no-touch healing technique that offers specific, tested, step-by-step procedures for treating ailments and preventing illness. It complements Western medicine as well as other healing modalities. Pranic Healing can help animals heal from physical ailments (both chronic and acute) as well as help in balancing the emotional and psychological aspects of an animal’s well being, which can help reduce stress and eliminate phobias. This introductory class is designed for those who want to develop their own innate skills to assist the healing process for their horse. We will introduce and practice the energy technique to treat common first aid ailments, which serves as the foundation for higher level work.

About the Presenter: Liza Burney has been studying subtle energy for over ten years and specializes in treating animals. She lives in Portland, OR, and is a member of the North Willamette Valley Chapter. Her website is www.heart-to-heart-healing.com.

ODS Biz Member Message for Thunder Hill Sport Horses

October 14th, 2010

Thunder Hill Arabian Sport Horses wishes to announce the advancement of our young purebred Arabian stallion, Annapolis++/ to Legion Of Merit, based on his accomplishments in performance and in hand at limited open and breed shows.

 janetjones-3

janetjones-2

janetjones-1

In addition, we are thrilled to announce that his progeny are following in his footsteps; from his 3-year-old Anglo-Arabian daughter Indiannapolis, winning under saddle for her new owner after just 16 rides, his 2-year-old purebred son, Minneannapolis being named 2009 USEF Region IV Champion Arabian Halter Horse of The Year, and then 2010 US Arabian Sport Horse Nationals Top Ten Futurity Gelding, and his 2008 purebred colt, Jon E B Good, being named 2009 USEF Region IV Reserve Champion Arabian Halter Horse of The Year.

We just returned from the 2010 US Arabian Sport Horse Nationals with multiple Top Ten Awards, and we are now ready to look forward to the 2011 foaling/breeding and show season.  It’s time to start placing some of these fine young, winning show horses into new show homes.  Each of these youngsters has been lovingly handled from birth, so we want only the best for them.

Our breeding program includes some of the best broodmares available; each with performance and conformation pedigrees and show records of their own.  All of our young horses have sound minds, bodies, and trainable/willing dispositions, and they are ready to go start winning for their new owners.  Each shows talent for both dressage and jumping, as well as for being a forever friend.  All are suitable for ambitious amateurs.  SHNPayback, Sweepstakes Nominated, USEF/USDF Lifetime Recorded.  Terms offered.

We are also delighted to announce that Annapolis++/ has successfully competed Nationally in Hunter Hack, after just 3-months of schooling over fences…. What’s more impressive is that his new rider for the past 5-months (including the Region IV Championships, where he earned 50-points, and the US Sport Horse Nationals, where he successfully competed against Top Name Trainers in the industry, to earn 4 Top Ten Titles), is a 12-year-old young lady!!!!!  Isn’t this the kind of disposition you want your show horse to have?  We are now booking for the 2011 breeding season.   541-840-3422  Janet  www.thunderhillarabians.com   in2horsesports@aol.com
