The Columbia County Dressage Chapter met on April 1, 2013 and had a very exciting and productive meeting. We had a surprise guest at our meeting from the Columbia County Fairgrounds Board. Thanks to a proposal submitted by Debbie Spitzenpfeil and the cooperation of the new fairgrounds board, we are in the stages of planning the first-ever Columbia County Fairgrounds Dressage League Show. This show will be held the weekend before the fair on July 13 and should be ODS approved. This show will be open to open, senior, and junior dressage riders and it will be the kick-off for this year’s Columbia County Fair. Our outside Dressage Court will also be getting brand-new footing, new letters and new paint. All proceeds will be going to the Columbia County Fairgrounds. We are excited about this positive sign of support for dressage in our county and we are looking forward to this new partnership with the fairgrounds. The Chapter and ODS will benefit from this partnership in many ways, including having the arena open for any haul-ins during the year, but we are mostly looking forward to frequently using the dressage court that we put in with chapter volunteers several years ago and we hope to plan many more dressage events in our area. Our next meeting will be held on May 1, 2013 at the home of Debbie Spitzenpfeil and members are encouraged to bring videos of themselves riding for viewing/discussion at the meeting. We also hope to discuss an article about lateral movements.
