Lexington, KY  – The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) is pleased to announce that Naomi Martin of Brooks, OR, has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 USDF Youth Volunteer of the Year Award, presented by The Paddock Saddlery and sponsored by the USDF Youth Programs Advisory Subcommittee. This prestigious award honors one outstanding youth volunteer who has contributed on a national and local basis to USDF and dressage.

As the recipient of this award, Naomi’s name will be engraved on a perpetual trophy, housed in the Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame. This trophy was donated by the Akin family of Warwick, NY, in honor of Lendon Gray. Naomi will also receive a $500 scholarship provided from funds raised through the Youth Silent Auction, held annually at the Adequan/USDF Annual Convention, and a $250 gift certificate donated by The Paddock Saddlery.

At only sixteen years of age, Naomi has selflessly volunteered nearly 100 hours to USDF-recognized competitions including, Dressage at DevonWood and Spring Into Dressage, the Region 6 Youth Team Competition as well as the Oregon High School Dressage Program. Naomi has assisted show management in every aspect from setting up arenas to show office work. She even took two young dressage riders under her wing with their “naughty little pony” and successfully coached them through their tests. Naomi was nominated for the Youth Volunteer of the Year award by Gaye McCabe of Region 6.

“Naomi is a wonderful young lady. I don’t know if I have ever seen her without a smile and she always comes with a positive attitude. She is truly instrumental in making our shows run successfully and smoothly,” stated McCabe.

Prestigious British award for dressage judge

December 3rd, 2010

Dressage judge Stephen Clarke is the 2010 recipient of the prestigious British Horse Society Queen’s Award for Equestrianism.

The Award, which is made on the recommendation of the Trustees of The British Horse Society, is “For Outstanding Services to Equestrianism”.

Clarke received the Award in recognition of his remarkable achievements and outstanding services to dressage.

The only British ‘O’ level judge and one of nine approved FEI Dressage Course Directors, Clarke was the first Briton to judge at an Olympics (in Athens in 2004). He has officiated at the World Equestrian Games, Senior, Junior and Young Rider European Championships and World Cup finals.

On home soil, Clarke chaired BD’s Judges Committee for 10 years and continues in a central role in the training of British judges. His education, support and mentoring have influenced the next generation. Indeed, many of Britain’s senior judging figures are a product of his training and encouragement.

“It is a great honour to represent my country in International competitions, but even more of an honour to receive The Queen’s Award,” Clarke said. “It means a huge amount to me as a member of the BHS, of which I am a strong supporter.”

BHS Chairman Dr Phil Wadey said: “Stephen Clarke’s personal achievements, not least the commitment he has shown to the development of the next generation, sum to a truly outstanding record of service to equestrianism.”

Her Majesty The Queen assented to the creation of The BHS Queen’s Award for Equestrianism in 2005. Previous recipients have been Jennie Loriston-Clarke FBHS MBE (2006), HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (2007), Lars Goran (Yogi) Breisner (2008) and Jane Holderness-Roddam (2009).

The Award is made on the recommendation of the Trustees of The British Horse Society. To ensure that participants from across the spectrum of equestrianism (including the military) are considered, the Trustees invited the Member Bodies of the British Equestrian Federation, the Commanding Officer of the Household Cavalry, The British Equestrian Veterinary Association and The National Association of Farriers, Blacksmiths and Agricultural Engineers (NAFBAE) plus BHS Scotland and BHS Northern Ireland, each to nominate a single potential recipient. All organisations are also on the selection panel which reduces the nine names to a shortlist of three.

OTTAWA, Canada, Dec. 1–Cindy Ishoy, co-owner of the World Equestrian Games team mount Proton, has been named the 2010 Dressage Canada Owner of the Year.

Proton, a 16-year-old Baden-Wurttemburger gelding, was ridden at the WEG in Kentucky by Ishoy’s student, Victoria Winter of Toronto.

Cindy has owned Proton (Patriarch x Rosenkavalier), since 2001, and rode him as a member of the Canadian Dressage Team at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where they were the top-placed Canadian entry.

She handed over the ride to Victoria in late 2009 with the aim of the pair qualifying for WEG. Canada placed seventh in the team competition for the best-ever finish at WEG.

“Cindy has been a long time supporter of our Canadian dressage teams. Just look through the history of Canada at major international dressage events and you will frequently find Cindy’s name as a team member,” said Dressage Canada 2010 Celebration of Dressage organizer, Lisa Hossack-Scott.

“It is such an honour to win this award,” said Cindy, who was a member of Canada’s bronze medal winning dressage team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. “What a pleasure it was to work with Victoria and Proton in preparation for the 2010 World Equestrian Games. It was such a great experience.”

John ‘Jack’ Kimball and Judith Noone to Receive the 2010 USDF Lifetime Achievement Award

December 1st, 2010

Lexington, KY (November 24, 2010) – The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to John ‘Jack’ Kimball and Judith Noone at the Salute Gala & Annual Awards Banquet on December 3, 2010, at the Adequan/USDF National Convention & Symposium in Jacksonville, FL. These two recipients have shown a lifetime of dedication to USDF through volunteering, and developing programs, projects, and committees that have contributed to USDF’s mission. They also have a long history of membership in USDF.

The late John “Jack” Kimball, of McIntosh, FL, was an active volunteer with USDF from its beginnings in 1973 until his death in June 1996.  Kimball was a founding member of USDF, served on several USDF committees, including Technical Delegates, Symposium Organizing, and Show Management, served as USDF Region 3 Director from 1979-1987, was a well-known American Horse Shows Association (now US Equestrian Federation) “R” dressage judge and technical delegate, and helped a number of USDF Group Member Organizations (GMOs) get off the ground.  These included the Florida Dressage Society which is one of USDF’s first charter GMOs for which he served as an official representative at the inaugural USDF meeting.

Judith Noone, of Abington, MA, has given countless hours of her time and expertise to the sport of dressage and to USDF.  Noone is known as a champion for youth in dressage as demonstrated by her proposal, in 1978, of a junior/young rider program to her GMO, the New England Dressage Association (NEDA) which resulted in years of collaboration on free weekly youth clinics and Junior/Young Rider dressage camps.  Because of her dedication to youth and dressage, USDF founder and inaugural Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame inductee Lowell Boomer asked Noone to helm a USDF Junior/Young Rider program and in 1983, she officially became the chair of the new Junior/Young Rider Program Committee.  Under her leadership, the committee went on to develop education grant programs, produce the three-part educational video series Just for Juniors, introduce the Junior/Young Rider Executive Board (not the Youth Programs Advisory Subcommittee), and founded the USDF Youth Regional Team Competitions.

USDF President George Williams said, “These two promoters of dressage were pioneers. They helped to lay the groundwork for where dressage is in this country today. The young people who benefited from Judy’s early projects have grown up and are helping another generation of youth. Florida has exploded from that first recognized show Jack help organize. It is easy to forget it wasn’t always like it is now. The Lifetime Achievement Awards allow us the opportunity to not only recognize their tireless efforts but also thank them in a very public way for helping build our dressage way of life.”
