Openings in 2/12 Mike Osinski Clinic in Talent, OR

February 7th, 2012

Dear ODS Members,

Siskiyou Chapter would like to let you know that we still have openings in the Mike Osinski Clinic, to be held on Sunday, February 12th .

Sunday’s clinic, taught by Mike Osinski is to be held at Destination’s End Equestrian Center, 1651 Anderson Creek Road, Talent OR 97540 US.  It is open to members and to non-members.  Click here to download flier with more details and to learn how to register.

About the clinician: Mike Osinski, a FEI Competitor and USEF “S” Judge resides in Lacey Washington where he trains and teaches dressage at the Forest Park Equestrian Center (6504 44thAve NE, Olympia, WA 98516).  He is the recipient of the USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals and has had multiple “Horse of the Year” placing with his own horses.  He has coached North American Young Rider Championship team from the Pacific Northwest and has helped numerous students achieve their USDF gold medals.  Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.  Mike is currently competing at FEI levels on several of his own, and client’s horses.  He has trained and ridden numerous horses to Grand Prix.  Mike has a unique ability to communicate with his students at any level of riding. He has tremendous empathy for the horse and rider.  Mike is one of the few clinicians today who is both a truly gifted communicator and rider.  He studies “classical dressage” and is a currently active competitor as well as a trained and active judge.  This gives him a perspective few other teachers can offer.  It is not uncommon for Mike to ride a student’s horse during a lesson to demonstrate a riding concept.  Mike has a unique ability to help students visualize a riding concept by helping them find their own words to describe the feel of a particular movement. Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.

UVC Shines Bright at Awards Banquet

January 9th, 2012

The Umpqua Valley Chapter was in the spotlight for the annual ODS awards banquet, as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations. Norma Talburt and Linda Sanders were co-winners of the Volunteer of the Year award. This highlighted the countless hours through the years that Norma and Linda have dedicated to the UVC. It was nice to get some statewide recognition for their many years of hard work. Congratulations ladies!

Norma was also selected as USDF Region 6 Volunteer of the Year as well! All winners of the state awards were eligible for the Region awards, however, only 1 winner for each category can be submitted. For that reason, Linda was not considered for the Regional award. The newsletter was submitted for the Chapter Newsletter of the Year, and it was selected as the winner! Yeah! The Newsletter that was submitted to ODS will be forwarded to the USDF Convention to be considered for the National Award . Thank you everyone who helps with the newsletter, especially Carol who converts it to a PDF file for me each month. We could not go paperless as a club without you!

A special thank you to Cindy Sanders who picked up the awards for us at the banquet, as none of the nominees were able to attend. That is two major awards in the UVC trophy case. As a special bonus, the awards were presented by Steffen Peters, who was present to teach a clinic! Cindy was lucky enough to shake his hand not once but twice! I wonder if she has washed it yet?

Chehalem Mountain Chapter News – January 2012

January 5th, 2012

Happy New Year, everyone!   2011 ended in a big way starting in November at the ODS Anniversary celebration weekend,  Cavalia coming to town, and the CMC annual Christmas party.

We had a very nice turnout and a great time at our party back on Dec 4.  The food was excellent, and as always the Ronning home was festive and cozy for a wonderful evening spent with good friends.  This special evening is always a favorite way to kick off the holidays.

A few gifts at the gift exchange were picked and stolen quite a few times, so there was quite a bit of begging, negotiating, and sad stories about why a particular gift belonged to the person that didn’t have it.  A couple of favorites were some beautiful  glass horse bookends, which Suzi managed to keep after the maximum steals allowed. Another favorite was a very cute horse rug, which Cary got to finally take home after it made the rounds through a few different people.   There were so many nice gifts this year, luckily, no one went home disappointed.
Our high point winners for the year were Robin Stern and Jacomo at Introductory level with a high score of 70.625%.  Great job, Robin and Jac!  The Training Level high point went to Jane Baer and her new horse, Gardenia, with a score of 61.25%.  What a wonderful way to end the first year showing a new horse.
2012 promises to be another exciting year for CMC.  In October we started a tentative calendar, and we have some wonderful ideas and things planned.
In October we elected new officers:  President: Sharon Knowlton; Vice President: Kris Brown; Treasurer: Jane Baer; and Secretary: Suzi Ronning.  Please contact any of us if you’re interested in joining our chapter, or have questions about any of the things we have planned this year.  We love to welcome new members and share the good times we have.
January 9 will be a regular business meeting to finalize the calendar for 2012.  Our February meeting will be held at Suzi Ronning’s to discuss final plans for the Bears Show, and then relax with popcorn and a dressage video.  March 3 and 4 is the Bears Above Ground Show in McMinnville.  We hope to see many of you riding at this show, as it’s a great weekend to shake off the winter doldrums and get back in the show ring again.  The rest of the year is what we’ve yet to finalize, but some of the things we hope to accomplish this year are a Pilates and Riding clinic, Ride-a-Test(s), a summer camping trip, tack swap and sale, more video nights and some educational speakers.

Best wishes to you and your favorite equines for a fun and exciting 2012….Sharon Knowlton
