NWV October News

September 28th, 2011

Fall is coming.  Our North Willamette Valley Chapter show managers and secretaries have been busy getting next years show information ready for the Omnibus Sept. 1st dead line.  We discussed adding Western Dressage to our Summer Daze League Show class list.  This could be fun and exciting.  We will also offer our costume class again.

Our August show planning meeting was at Kathy Darneille’s home.  We had a good meeting and a good turn out.  We enjoyed Lasagna, salads and deserts on the patio.  We completed our business before it got dark.

We had a good time talking about what we have done in the last ten years and what was significant that we wanted to include in the 40th Anniversary book.  I am looking forward to the 40th meeting and banquet.

We opened nominations for officers for the 2011-2012 year.  Nominations will remain open until we vote at our meeting in October.  We hope new people will come forward and submit their names.  If you feel it is not time to step into a chapter leadership role, we decided to start a mentoring program.  So you can see what it is all about without the pressure.  So please contact me if you are interested in mentoring a chapter office. All current officers have agreed to run for re-election for next year.

We had some discussion about what events and activities we want to have next year.  Members have been pleased with what we have done this year.  Marla and I will draw up a schedule and submit it to the membership.

Remember our meetings are the 3 Monday of the month.  Please check the chapter’s website and watch your e mail for meeting information.

Kathy Darneille, President.

North Willamette Valley Chapter Report

August 30th, 2011

NWVlogoHow did August get here so fast?  September is coming with ODS Championships and then the ODS Fall Festival and 40th Anniversary are soon to follow.  Some exciting horse watching and educational opportunities are fast approaching

North Willamette Valley Chapter’s Summer Daze Show at Mount Hood Equestrian & Event Center was a little smaller show than last year, but we had a good smooth running show with fabulous volunteers helping out.  Many thanks to all the volunteers that made the show run well.

Our Camp Out and Trail Ride at Silverfalls State Park was very fun and relaxing.  The park has improved some trails and added some bridge crossings.  The Forest was beautiful and very green, from our summer’s late arrival.  We had several families camping out and had members come for day rides and just come and visit and bring water melon.  Yummy.

With the arrival of fall, we are thinking about next year.  It is a good time to get involved with chapter activities.  Election of officers for next year is coming up.  Planning meetings for next years horse shows are coming.  Please watch your e mail for upcoming meetings and activities.  Be sure and visit our web site too.

North Willamette Valley Chapter’s July News

Thank you, Audrey Staton, for the informative meeting about acupuncture at our June 20th meeting.

Looking ahead July 9th and 10th is our Summer Daze Schooling Show at Mount Hood Equestrian and Event Center.  We hope to see you at the show having a good time.

Saturday’s costume event’s theme is “Some where over the Rainbow”.  Riders are so creative with class.  It is really fun to watch.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Kathy Darneille.  I will be making phone calls to get our Saturday morning volunteers lined up and to secure the end of the

Show clean up and pick up group.  Show participants will be asked to volunteer when  they pick up their show packets in the office.

July 29th to Aug 1st is our 2nd annual Trailride and Campout at Silverfalls State Park.  For information please contact Marla Santino.

Its not too early to start thinking about chapter officer elections.  All chapter members are eligible to run for a position.  Several of our current officers have been in office for multiple years now and we would welcome new people to come in and take the reins.  Being a chapter officer is great way to meet new people who are very much interested in our Chapter, ODS and HORSES.  Please consider participating in the chapter and being involved with our future.  Please contact Kathy Darneille for more information.

North Willamette Valley Chapter News – March 2011

March 1st, 2011

NWVlogoHere we are in 2011.  Show entries for Spring Into Dressage are coming in and we are excited!  This year the Spring show is at Northwest Equestrian and Event Center in Boring Oregon.  The Dates are March 11 through 13.  We are looking for volunteers to come help us make this show a success.  Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.

Several of our chapter members were chosen for demo riders at the Intro to 2011 Test Clinic at Devon Wood Equestrian Center in February.  They were Marla Santino riding Enzo.  Helen Ferguson riding Toby and Andra Merick riding Wroxy.  All three did an excellent job.  And WOW what a large turn out of auditors for the event.

Some of our Chapter members are auditing the L Program at Devon Wood Equestrian Center.  I personally am looking forward to the next session.

Thank you ODS and Devon Wood for hosting these educational events.  They are very much appreciated.

I have just returned from the ODS Board Retreat at Silver Falls State Park.  I always have a good relaxing time there and get to meet new people who are willing to come forward and take responsibilities on committees to help promote Dressage and support ODS.  It takes volunteers to make programs happen for ODS Members.  I will be contacting chapter officers, asking for historical information of interest from the last 10 years, to be included in a new 40 Year Anniversary Book.  Oregon Dressage Society is Celebrating 40 Years this year at our Year End Awards Banquet in Portland Oregon this fall.

North Willamette Valley Chapters meeting are the 3rd Monday of the month.  Please check website for meeting locations and information.

Opportunity Classes are your chance to compete at a USEF/USDF/ODS-recognized show without paying any fees!

  • Opportunity Classes are intended to introduce prospective competitors to the world of USEF/USDF-recognized competition, but they are open to anyone.
  • Our Opportunity Classes DO count toward the high school equestrian letter program; they do not count toward any other awards program or qualifying requirement.
  • Dressage Opportunity Classes are exempt from all USEF, USDF and ODS membership requirements, horse recording requirements, and fees.
  • Dressage Opportunity Classes are run under USEF Dressage chapter rules. Dress and tack requirements apply, and you will be judged by a USEF-licensed dressage judge.
  • Horses entered in Opportunity Classes are subject to USEF drug rules and random drug testing, although the USEF drug/admin fee does not apply.
