Pacific Crest Trail Chapter’s Spring Newsletter

April 24th, 2012

From the President:
Happy 2012, fellow PCTC members!  I’m really looking forward to a good year of riding, learning, and collaborating on all things dressage! It’s a great time to get your 2012 calendar together–starting with PCTC favorites, including Ernie clinics and the chapter’s ever-popular Dressage Can Be Fun Show during Halloween weekend.
Speaking of calendars, have you seen the newly updated ODS online calendar? It’s got some great interactive features that allow you to receive important reminders, and it is very easy to submit new events for posting. We
will be making sure that all PCTC events are listed and are current on the ODS calendar, so there is just one place you need to go for all your dressage activities.
On behalf of the PCTC board, we would love to see you at any of our chapter meetings, Ernie clinics, other chapter or ODS activities, and definitely if you can volunteer your time at the Dressage Can Be Fun Show later in the year.
Cheers,
Marci Sanders

North Willamette Valley Chapter News – April 2012

April 15th, 2012

Finally, I think Spring is coming.  The sun is shining and I need to be riding a horse.

Our Spring into Dressage Show held on March 9 and 10 was a successful show.  The exhibitors had a good time, the office ran smoothly and the facility is easy to use. Now we are looking forward to our Leauge show, Summer Daze, July 14 and 15 at Mt. Hood Equestrian and Event Center.  We are going to offer some Western Dressage Classes.

Please look up the show in the Omnibus or on the ODS Website for details.

We have been thrilled to be receiving good responses by e mail from our chapter members who are wanting to be active, but are not able to be at meetings.  We will continue to reach out electronically.

We did not have a chapter meeting in March.  The time was to short to prepare for one after the horse show.  Our April meeting was back on schedule.  We meet the third Monday of every month.  Watch your e mails or check NWV’s web site for meeting details.

Thank you,

Kathy Darneille, Chapter President

Umpqua Valley Chapter Report for April/May, 2012

April 11th, 2012

Summer Solstice Fun Show – The planning for the June fun show put on by our chapter is well underway.  The last several years we have hosted a ride a test and fun show at Bobbi Harper’s place, this year we will be hosting a fun open dressage show on June 10 at the Poco Loco Ranch in Melrose.  The emphasis will be on fun as the prize list will include some unusual classes.  We will offer western dressage USEF basic and preliminary tests for those of you who don’t feel up to the pressure of breeches, Prix Caprilli tests for those out there who like their dressage with jumps in the middle of it, and for you who like to show on the razors edge, or cant remember your test, we will be offering the dressage roulette class.  You would enter a level, for example first, and then as you entered the arena, a reader calls which test from that level you will be riding.  You need to be prepared to ride any of the tests from a level, so intro horse/riders should be prepared to canter a 20 meter circle if intro C is called for you.

We will also be offering age divided rail classes of dressage equitation and dressage suitability (think dressage pleasure).  All horses will be asked to walk/trot/canter, work-offs and lengthened gaits at the judges discretion.  June Horkey of the TRC has agreed to judge for us, and we are in the process of securing a food vendor.

Upcoming tasks include advertising, securing sponsorships, and organizing volunteers.  We will need several volunteers for scribing, parking/traffic organization, runners, scorers and announcing to name a few.  Please contact Jill if you would like to volunteer on show day!  See you there!

North Willamette Valley Chapter – ODS News – April 2012

April 1st, 2012

North Willamette Valley Chapter would like to thankDevonWoodEquestrianCenterand Jessica Rattner for hosting our February meeting.  We briefly discussed the upcoming Spring into Dressage Show.  We enjoyed lasagna and salad provided by Crosby Creek Stables.  Then we watched and discussed some Stephen Peters videos from the Fall Festival Clinic.  Jessica made helpful comments from an instructors point view.  The meeting was well attended by Chapter Members and clients of DevonWood.    I wanted to mention that the Stephen Peters Video was from the ODS Library.  It was easy to get and return.  The ODS Library is a great resource. Our Spring into Dressage Show was successful and fun, even though we had to drop Sunday’s classes and make it a 2 day show.  The 2 days were full and well attended.  We also had hints of wonderful warm spring weather. Please check out web site for more chapter information and upcoming meetings.  – Kathy Darneille, NWV President.
