Openings in 2/12 Mike Osinski Clinic in Talent, OR

February 7th, 2012

Dear ODS Members,

Siskiyou Chapter would like to let you know that we still have openings in the Mike Osinski Clinic, to be held on Sunday, February 12th .

Sunday’s clinic, taught by Mike Osinski is to be held at Destination’s End Equestrian Center, 1651 Anderson Creek Road, Talent OR 97540 US.  It is open to members and to non-members.  Click here to download flier with more details and to learn how to register.

About the clinician: Mike Osinski, a FEI Competitor and USEF “S” Judge resides in Lacey Washington where he trains and teaches dressage at the Forest Park Equestrian Center (6504 44thAve NE, Olympia, WA 98516).  He is the recipient of the USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals and has had multiple “Horse of the Year” placing with his own horses.  He has coached North American Young Rider Championship team from the Pacific Northwest and has helped numerous students achieve their USDF gold medals.  Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.  Mike is currently competing at FEI levels on several of his own, and client’s horses.  He has trained and ridden numerous horses to Grand Prix.  Mike has a unique ability to communicate with his students at any level of riding. He has tremendous empathy for the horse and rider.  Mike is one of the few clinicians today who is both a truly gifted communicator and rider.  He studies “classical dressage” and is a currently active competitor as well as a trained and active judge.  This gives him a perspective few other teachers can offer.  It is not uncommon for Mike to ride a student’s horse during a lesson to demonstrate a riding concept.  Mike has a unique ability to help students visualize a riding concept by helping them find their own words to describe the feel of a particular movement. Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.

Siskiyou Chapter Report

June 25th, 2011

Our tack sale fundraiser was a great success in April. Thanks to Ellen Dennis for use of her barn and to all who donated and purchased items. Everything was sold! The Roadhouse Grill dinner/meeting in April had 10 attending from our club plus a couple of Noble Riders Pony club members and family. Seemed like everyone had a good time and enjoyed their dinner plus we raised some needed funds. The May show was postponed until June 18th due to the EVH-1 virus. Thanks to all of our volunteers including the Noble Riders and especially Rachel Merusi for making the show a success. Thanks to Angela for hosting the Summer Solstice get together at her house for our June 21st meeting.

For the rest of this coming year, we are looking forward to the musical freestyle clinic with Karen Robinson on September 30 to October 2nd at Kathy Everman’s facility, Hidden Meadows, in the Applegate. The riding spots are filled but auditors are welcome. Call Rachel Merusi at 503-530-6447 for details.  Also this year we are looking into other fun, educational activities such as a play day around the dressage trail and prix caprilli tests and a trail ride possibly through a vineyard (maybe with wine tasting as an option?).

The club is still looking at venues for our sanctioned show scheduled for June 30 to July 1st with Kristi Wysocki as the judge. Also in 2012 we will have two league shows at Cygnet Farm. One will be held Feb 11th with a clinic on the 12th; Mike Osinski ‘S’will be the judge and clinician.  The judge and clinician for the April 28th show and 29th test review will be Lynn McEnespy ‘R’.

Everyone is welcome to join us for meetings and get-togethers on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We love to have all our members involved.

EHV-1 / EHM Alert: 5/19 Demo in LaGrande is postponed; 5/21 Show in Tangent rescheduled

May 19th, 2011

Dear ODS Members,

Due to the news of a confirmed case of neurological herpes virus in Oregon and the State Veterinarian Don Hanson urging horse owners to take precautions, several of our chapters have decided to postpone or to reschedule events which were on the calendar for later this week or for this coming weekend.  The state veterinarian’s website contains up to date information about the disease in our state as well as informational links to disease information and potential signs of the disease – the website address is: http://www.oregon.gov/ODA/AHID/equine_herpes_virus.shtml.

The confirmed case of the neurological herpes virus (Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy) or EHM, is directly linked to the cutting event held in Ogden, Utah from April 30 through May 8, 2011.  A number of other cases have been confirmed in surrounding states including, Washington, Idaho, California and Colorado.  EHM is a highly contagious neurological virus that can cause severe neurological symptoms in horses. There are no restrictions on the movement of non-exposed horses within Oregon at this time.

The first event which will be postponed is the Demo of the Geometry of the Dressage Ring and How to Ride It which was to be held on 5/19 at Hasel Farms, 61240 Crooked Creek Road, LaGrande, OR 97850. For more information or to be notified of the rescheduled date, please contact Karen Hasel at (541) 963-9654.

The second event which has already been rescheduled is Salute to Dressage League Show which was to be held 5/21 at the Cygnet Farm, 7501 Wagner Creek Rd Tangent OR 97540. The show will now be held on June 18th, start time of 9:00 AM.  If you have questions about an entry or for more information about the show, please contact Rachel Merusi, manager at (541) 830-4754.

At this point, no other events have been postponed, rescheduled or canceled. Individual show and clinic managers will be communicating with our office; should any other events be cancelled or postponed, our office will notify our membership via e-mail, posting on our Facebook Fan Page and posting on the ODS website’s news page immediately.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly in the ODS Office.
