Exerpts from the 2010 Umpqua Valley Chapter Newsletter:
As the busy 2010 show season winds down I have received several results from some late season shows. Cassi Soule riding Debbie Beckland’s gelding Goldsun is currently ranked first in the nation in the Performance Horse Registry for 3rd level dressage. They will be competing at Starr Vaughn in early November to try and solidify that lead in the rankings. Good Luck! Congratulations to Jennifer, Avry, Katie, and Nicholas, on your outstanding scores at the Area 7 Event Championships in Rainier, WA on Sept 17-19th. In the Beginner Novice and Novice Championship Divisions, all 4 riders finished on their Dressage scores only, as they all rode clear rounds in both Cross Country and Stadium. For the Beginner Novice Championship Division, Jennifer Starns on Norma Talburt’s MNW Summer Sunshine finished 3rd with 37.1 pts. Avry Hansen on Revelation finished 6th with 41.0 pts. Katie Jensen on True Colors finished 7th with 41.4 pts. For the Novice Championships, Nicholas Sanders on Political Bull finished 10th  with 51.0 pts. Also, a big Thank you goes out to Cindy Sanders for coaching these great riders. Congratulations to Anna Jensen on her 6th place in the Beginner Novice Junior Division at the EI Horse Trials in Rainier, WA on Sept 17-19th. Anna and her horse Tucker earned 32.9 pts. in Dressage, 20 pts. In Cross Country, and 4 pts. In Stadium for a total score of 56.9 pts. Anna had qualified for the Championships, but opted on ride a young horse in the Horse Trials instead. Anna is also coached by Cindy Sanders. The douglas County 4-H Hippology team leaves the first week of November for Kentucky to participate in the National Championships. The team, coached by Dr Hope Flint, earned the right to compete at the Nationals with a first place finish in the state contest. This is the first time the 4-H team has qualified for the National finals. The team has spent the last several months fundraising to offset the travel expenses, and has done a great job. We are all pulling for the girls to make Oregon proud and do their best at the Finals. Congratulations on a job well done. Hippology is the study of general horse knowledge, not hippos, and the team will be asked general knowledge questions from the fields of tack id, health, nutrition, conformation, breed identification, feed identification and many others. Good Luck! Our next chapter event will be our Christmas Party on December 10th at Shell Grey’s house starting at 6:30 PM – enter at A.Â
