2011 ODS Show Approvals are due 11/1/2010 for inclusion on our press releases and planning calendars, however, shows may apply for approval throughout the year.  We highly recommend getting your approval in as soon as possible, though, as members are already e-mailing the office asking about 2011 dates!

2011 SHOW APPROVALS – EXCITING NEWS!!  The ODS Shows Committee and the ODS Office have launched a new Show Approval webpage which has all of the information you need about ODS Show Approval in one place, including an updated application for 2011, the updated ODS Show Standards and ability to pay online.  By repeated member request, rather than waiting until the fall, the ODS Office is prepared to add shows to the online calendar as soon as they are processed, so beat the rush and turn your application in today (several shows have already)!

A few updates to this year’s show standards:

• Our office is no longer able to bill out for show approvals.  Payment must be received WITH the application – either fax/e-mail the application and pay online using PayPal, or mail the application with check enclosed, please.
• The ODS Shows Committee is asking that at least one member of your show management team is a current ODS member in good standing.  If this poses a difficulty to your show, please contact Rose Newman directly – rose_newman@yahoo.com
• The ODS Shows Committee is urging shows to not turn in their applications with TBAs if possible.

Information about the 2011 ODS Regional Omnibus will be released soon … work on updating your prize lists, securing your contracts and hiring officials now and we will send you details about how to list your show and the costs as soon as they are approved! Shows must be ODS Approved in order to be published in the ODS Regional Omnibus.  Expect the deadline to be 9/1/2010

The Summer Daze Dressage Show still has places available and the closing date has been extended to Friday, July 2^nd. This is a really friendly, low stress show at the recently revamped Mount Hood Equestrian and Event Center, 29450 SE Lariat Lane, Boring.

We are also offering HC rides for third level and higher for those who want to practice their upper-level rides in a low-stress environment. The rides will not qualify for prizes or League Championship Show status but will be judged.

Dear ODS Members,

The North Willamette Valley Chapter – ODS has announced the following prize list update for their upcoming ODS League Show “Summer Daze Dressage” #L-7006, to be held 10^th and 11^th at the Mount Hood Equestrian and Event Center, Boring, OR.   Please review the entire prize list as several areas of the prize list were updated (indicated by red text).

Most importantly, the following was added:

PROTECTIVE HEAD GEAR

Every rider, when riding anywhere on the show grounds, must wear a protective helmet

with harness fastened. Riders who refuse to do so must immediately dismount, and

both the rider and the horse will be disqualified from the competition. No scores for that

horse will be reported, and no refunds will be issued.

The ODS League Championships has moved to Central Point, Oregon this year – it’s being held May 22 and 23.  We are currently seeking sponsors, vendors, volunteers and exhibitors!  Let us know if you can participate!

The May 22-23 ODS League Show Championships and Open Show is rapidly approaching.  For those who have qualified over the past year we are looking forward to seeing you in the Championship classes.  If you didn’t qualify, come ride in the open classes and get a head start on qualification for next year.   Closing date is May 8.

There will be dinner and dancing Saturday evening.  Well, dancing with horses anyway.  There will be performances of FEI level musical freestyles exhibitions for your enjoyment.  A couple of other surprises are also in store.

Dinner will be available on Saturday evening for a cost of $20.  Choices will include Tri-Tip, Chicken breast, or vegetarian lasagna along with veggies, fruit salad, green salad and dessert.  The caterer requires a minimum number so in order to make this work, we need advance reservations and payment.  Please make reservations with Dee Dee  Estes (gpdeedee@hotmail.com) and send her your check written out to “ODS” at:

Greetings from the ODS League Championship Show Committee!  President Ed Miller has asked me to take on the duties of Sponsorship Chair for the 2010 League Show.  Many of us have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, but I look forward to greeting you personally during the upcoming year as our paths cross in ODS activities.

One of the President’s goals for this year’s League Show is to bring in sponsors from all areas of the Pacific Northwest.  As an ODS member, you can play a critical role in the success of the ODS League Show by representing our needs to potential sponsors in your area.  With that in mind, the forms available below are for your use as you approach sponsors and advertisers.

In making our case to potential sponsors, some of the points you might like to bear in mind include:

• This year the ODS League Show will be held in Central Point, Oregon on May 22 and 23, and is anticipated to draw participants and spectators from up and down the Willamette Valley, northern California, southwestern Washington, as well as Central and Eastern Oregon.  That’s a lot of eyeballs from the Pacific Northwest to see products and services!
• More than 350 riders qualify for the ODS League Show; this show draws a strong amateur crowd that is an eager market for horse nutritional products, stable management products, vet and grooming items, and tack for stable and dressage ring alike.
• In 2009, there were 93 riders in the Championship classes – we anticipate topping 100 this year in the Championship classes, with as many in the Open Class division, too.
• This is a show where people come for fun – both to ride and to watch friends and family – and its placement in southern Oregon opens up opportunities for a wide range of Pacific Northwesterners to come see dressage and learn about sponsoring companies and organizations.
• ODS welcomes many kinds of sponsorship.  We offer five (5) affordable categories of sponsorship, as well as separate advertising opportunities.

Without your help and hard work, sponsorships won’t become a reality for the ODS League Show.  Please let me know if you need any further information to promote ODS to sponsors in your area.  Please note that the deadline for sponsorships is May 8.
