ODS: Awards Fee Policy

January 30th, 2012

Dear ODS Members,

Except for the two exceptions listed below, the ODS Awards Fee is $1/per ride down the centerline or DSHB for ODS approved shows, regardless of ODS Membership.

  • Exception: shows hosted by organizations other than ODS Chapters outside of the state of Oregon or Clark County, Washington, the $1/per ride down the centerline or DSHB go applies only to ODS Members – show secretaries MUST cross reference the most current ODS membership list posted on the ODS website and be sure to charge this fee to all ODS members.
  • Exception: for breed restricted shows (Arabian, Morgan, etc), the $1/per ride down the centerline or DSHB go applies only to ODS Members – show secretaries MUST cross reference the most current ODS membership list posted on the ODS website and be sure to charge this fee to all ODS members.

If you ride in a show approved by ODS that is subject to an exception listed above, it is your responsibility to declare your ODS member number and to pay the ODS Awards Fee to the show’s secretary.  Shows approved by ODS but subject to either exception may or may not have a space in their entry form for ODS Awards Fees – please be “heads up” in these situations!

Please contact Edwin A. Miller, the chair of the ODS Awards Committee at eamgroup@aol.com or (541) 482-2902  if you have a question about this procedure, or contact the ODS Office at office@oregondressage.com if you are not sure you have paid in for awards at shows with exceptions.

Thank you,

ODS Office

Preliminary awards lists have been posted on the ODS Website for the 2011 ODS League Show Horse/Rider Awards, the ODS Licensed Show Horse/Rider and Freestyle Awards and the ODS DSHB Awards – please follow the links in the comments section. Corrections must be turned into the correct awards volunteer (listed on each webpage) by 1/30/2012; any errors discovered after this date will only be corrected online (reprints of plates to be at the members’ expense).  Click here for the Sport Horse Awards: http://www.oregondressage.com/sporthorseawards.html or click here for the Horse/Rider Awards for League and Licensed (including freestyles): http://www.oregondressage.com/riderawards.html

Nominations for the 2012 ODS Futurity are due January 31, 2012

The ODS Futurity consists of riding two tests at the ODS Championship Show in September – USEF Training Level Test 3 and USEF First Level Test 1. The futurity is open to all horses four to six years of age who have not shown at First Level or above (or equivalent test) prior to nomination (including ODS League shows).  The point scores from both tests will be added and the highest total will determine the winner. Both owner and rider of the horse must be ODS members in good standing at the time of the futurity; owner need not be the rider.  Horse must be nominated each year and have fees paid each year prior to competition.    To review all of the ODS Futurity Rules and to make a nomination, please visit http://www.oregondressage.com/2012_omnibus/2012-Futurity.pdf.  Refer to ODS Championship Show Omnibus listing for futurity class entry fees and other show fees that may apply.

Applications for Participants in Part 2 of the USDF “L” Education Program are due February 1, 2012

Oregon Dressage Society is proud to be hosting the second part of the USDF “L” Education Program in 2012.  This program is especially important for ODS because of the tremendous opportunity for learning this program offers participants of Part 1 and of the continuing education opportunity this program provides for current “L” program graduates.  Additionally, the ODS League Show approval requires at least an “L” graduate to be used as an official.  Having candidates successfully complete this program will increase the pool of available officials for approved ODS League Shows.  The application period for the USDF “L” Education Program, Part II presented by ODS in 2012 is now open.   Part II consists of Sessions D1, D2, Sitting/Scribing with “R” or “S” Judges and the Final Exam.   Only 10 participants can be accepted and a few slots are still available.   Auditors are not permitted.  Candidates will selected on a first come first served basis.    Please refer to the ODS website (http://www.oregondressage.com/lprogram.html) for further information, criteria and the application form.

Thank you,

ODS Office

Openings in both 2/11 League Show and 2/12 Clinic – Closing date 1/30

January 20th, 2012

Dear ODS Members,

Siskiyou Chapter would like to let you know that we still have openings in both the Be My Valentine ODS League Show, to be held on Saturday, February 11th and the Mike Osinski Clinic, to be held on Sunday, February 12th .  The closing date is approaching (January 30th).

The Be My Valentine Show is an ODS League Show #L-9001, to be held at Cygnet Farm, 7501 Wagner Creek Road, Talent OR 97540.  It offers USDF Introductory Level through USEF Second Level including Musical Freestyle/Pas de Deux/Quadrille, plus unrecognized Third Level and Above, Prix Caprilli and Dressage Trail.  Show Officials: Mike Osinski (S)

Sunday’s clinic, taught by Mike Osinski is to be held at Destination’s End Equestrian Center, 1651 Anderson Creek Road, Talent OR 97540 US.  It is open to members and to non-members.  Click here to download flier with more details and to learn how to register.

About the clinician: Mike Osinski, a FEI Competitor and USEF “S” Judge resides in Lacey Washington where he trains and teaches dressage at the Forest Park Equestrian Center (6504 44thAve NE, Olympia, WA 98516).  He is the recipient of the USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals and has had multiple “Horse of the Year” placing with his own horses.  He has coached North American Young Rider Championship team from the Pacific Northwest and has helped numerous students achieve their USDF gold medals.  Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.  Mike is currently competing at FEI levels on several of his own, and client’s horses.  He has trained and ridden numerous horses to Grand Prix.  Mike has a unique ability to communicate with his students at any level of riding. He has tremendous empathy for the horse and rider.  Mike is one of the few clinicians today who is both a truly gifted communicator and rider.  He studies “classical dressage” and is a currently active competitor as well as a trained and active judge.  This gives him a perspective few other teachers can offer.  It is not uncommon for Mike to ride a student’s horse during a lesson to demonstrate a riding concept.  Mike has a unique ability to help students visualize a riding concept by helping them find their own words to describe the feel of a particular movement. Mike continues his own equestrian education by seeking out instruction, most recently from: Gerd Zuther and Bert Rutten, Chef d’Equipe for the Dutch Senior Dressage Team.
