Seeking Demo Riders for the NW Equine Expo 3/22-25

January 20th, 2012

ODS is currently searching for Demo Riders/Horses for the upcoming NW Horse Fair & Expo in Albany, OR on March 22-25, 2012.

International Competitor and Grand Prix Instructor Jan Ebeling will be serving as the Dressage Clinician at this years’ Expo and ODS has once again been asked to help find demonstration riders/horses for the event.

Jan would like to use horses at Second to Fourth Level in his demonstrations at the Expo.  So we are looking for 6 demo horse/rider combinations that are comfortable at Second, Third or Fourth Level to participate in the Expo.

Demo horses should be comfortable in a noisy environment.  This is a symposium style event, so there will be lots of distractions, with people and other horses moving about.  The clinician has a planned program of training theories and techniques to deliver to the audience, and demo riders must be willing to do as the instructor requests, unless they believe it to be harmful to them or their horse.  It is important to remember that this is not a private lesson for your benefit alone; it is a demonstration ride.  As such, rider/horse selection will be made to best fit the needs of the symposium. By applying, the rider acknowledges their role as a demo rider and agrees to respectfully follow all requests and instructions made by the clinician.

The session topics are:

Friday – ‘Definition & Application of the Rider’s Aids’

Saturday – ‘Designing a Productive Work Session, Following the Training Scale’

Sunday – Preparation for a Show and What to do if Everything Goes Wrong’

If you are interested in participating please fill out the online application no later than Feb. 15, 2012.  The online application has a place for your YouTube link or alternate instructions for mailing DVDs.  There is no cost to be a demo rider at the expo but you will need to cover your own transportation and lodging costs.  Your generosity in being willing to serve as a demo rider provides a very important service to both the clinician and the audience.

For more information, please contact the demo rider organizer, Francy Haupt, at dqhorsestuff@comcast.net or (971) 832-2260.

Important! Call for Volunteers and Other Updates for the ODS Championship Show

August 30th, 2011

Greetings ODS!

Can you believe that September is almost here and the close of our show season is just around the corner? Where did the summer go?

We are gearing up for our 30th Annual ODS Open & Championship Shows, coming up NEXT WEEKEND, September 9-11 – and WE NEED YOUR HELP J

VOLUNTEERS: Thank you so much for your amazing support in years past! I am pleased to report that our entry numbers are looking good, so we will have at least THREE competition arenas, each running very full days. It takes many bodies to make this show successful, and we still have openings in every volunteer position, from scribes to runners to scorers to gate. So PLEASE set aside a few hours next weekend and come join us at the show. Competitors – your involvement is crucial to fill in many shorter shifts and last minute openings. We are more than happy to work around your ride times, so please contact us with your willingness, and we will then confirm with you after ride times are posted.

Please e-mail John_Craven@ous.edu with your preferences right away – and Thank You, Thank you, Thank you!

RIDE TIMES: Our Show Secretary, Mary, is working hard to process the final entries, as more than half of our numbers arrived after the closing date. She will start working on the schedule today and tomorrow – with the hope of having ride times posted by the end of the week.

CELEBRATE: Did you know that ODS is celebrating its 40th Birthday? Our Championship show has been around 30 years as well – so we have much to celebrate! Please join us Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., in the breezeway behind the show office, as we host a Birthday Bash for ODS! We will serve cake and punch, and have some fun giveaways and door prizes. You don’t want to miss it!

FOOD BANK: Please remember that the ODS Open & Championship Shows are an official fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank, so please bring some non-perishable food items to share with those who really need them. Thanks so much!

ODS Show Poster: You have all received the 2011 ODS Championship Show poster by e-mail (and it is posted here: http://www.oregondressage.com/news/2011/2011-ods-championship-show-poster/). Please help us spread the word and encourage the public to join us for this fantastic event. Just print off a few and post them in your barn, your office, your local feed or tack stores and even in your grocery store J

As always, check us out at www.odschampionshipshow.com

Thank you again for your enthusiastic support – we look forward to seeing you soon!

Jennifer Milburn, show manager
