In its fourth year, the 2013 USDF Region 6 Youth Dressage Overnight Camp hosted by ODS and held at DevonWood Equestrian Centre will be a wonderful educational experience, dedicated to youth regardless of membership or experience in Dressage.
The dates for 2013 are August 5 through 8.
The camp will be open to the first 60 registered youth ages 8 - 21; after the first 60, we will create a wait-list. If more instructors are confirmed, we will call each person the wait-list until the camp is full.
ODS membership is encouraged, however it is not required.
Costs:
The 2013 fee to attend the camp is $325; this price includes 4 days of riding, food, 4 days and 3 nights of stabling, covers the cost of hiring a licensed EMT to handle First Aid, and several other necessary expenditures to ensure that the camp is a safe and comfortable environment for all those in attendance!
in 2013 there will not be a horseless option.
$25 of each registration fee will be dedicated to the Region 6 NAJRYC fund.
Campers may bring their own shavings or wood pellets (no straw) or may pre-purchase bedding during registration at a discounted price. It is recommended to have the equivalent of 3 bales of shavings per horse.
Instructors:
Because one of the goals of this camp is to be able to prepare our youth for high performance competition (we would like to send a full team to the NAJYRC from Region 6 in the future), we seek instructors who have:
Competed at Juniors, AYR, Brentina Cup or have other High Performance Experience; and/or
Trained internationally; and/or
Instructed someone who has competed at Juniors, AYR, Brentina Cup, etc.
In an effort to minimize the costs of attending this camp, all of the instructors and lecturers have generously donated their time for the weekend and are being housed by friends of the camp.
This year's instructors are
TBD.
Safety:
Helmets:
ASTM/SEI approved helmets are required to be worn with harness properly fastened at all times while mounted - there are no exceptions to this rule.
Other Attire: Riders are required to wear boots with a heel while mounted. No flip-flops, sandals or open-toed shoes are allowed in the stabling area. Other requirements in regards to attire will be addressed in the e-mail you get after your registration has been confirmed.
Unsafe Horses/Riders:
The camp coordinator, volunteer instructors or an authorized representative of ODS has the right to excuse a horse/rider from their riding session if there are safety concerns. In such a case, the camp coordinator will make personal contact with the camper's parent/guardian on file to discuss the safety concerns and to try to come up with solutions.
EMT/First Aid:
In 2012, EMT services were graciously provided as an in-kind donation by AMR.
ODS will contract contracting an EMT for this event who will be on duty only during riding hours.
Schedule:
A draft schedule will be posted as we get closer to the camp dates. The schedule is subject to change as lecturers and instructors are confirmed.
Volunteer:
The ODS Youth Programs Committee is still seeking several key volunteers for this camp to be successful as well as onsite chaperones and other helpers for mealtime and paperwork.
With your generous donation, we can provide scholarships for riders who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend this camp and we can offset other large costs of administrating the camp such as EMT, port-a-potties and travel expenses of our volunteer instructors.
Contact our sponsorship coordinator, Claire Evans - (503)459-6837, if you can provide assistance or simply use the PayPal buttons below/mail a check to the ODS Office to provide a donation.
If you would like to make a donation of a kid-friendly prepared meal for the campers or to provide snacks, beverages or treats, please contact Rose Newman - (360) 281-6550.
